Real are currently second in La Liga, but are seven points behind Barcelona, who lead the league table with 61 points. Los Blancos notched up their seventeenth league win of the season when they crushed Real Sociedad 4-1 at home last weekend. Brazilian maestro Kaka opened the scoring and a quick fire brace from striker Cristiano Ronaldo allowed Real to go into the interval 3-0 ahead.
An own goal from Alvaro Arbeloa saw Sociedad reduce the arrears, but on loan striker Emmanuel Adebayor netted late in the fixture to restore Real’s three goal advantage.
Espanyol fought hard against Almeria last weekend but the Catalonian outfit’s efforts went in vain as they eventually lost 3-2. Almeria raced to a 3-0 lead within the first twenty minutes but Espanyol showed great resilience to score twice and bring the deficit down to a single goal. However try hard as they did to net the third, Espanyol were unable to add the finishing touches to their great comeback.
